This past weekend Sam and I headed to L.A. again and although we definitely have a routine now we tried some amazing new places. We had dinner with our favorite people at Hinoki & The Bird in this amazing tucked away industrial space. Hinoki is a type of cypress tree and chef David Myers incorporates it into many of the dishes so the whole restaurant has that amazing scent. Try the lobster roll and the honey mochi for dessert. Sunday we explored a new area and had breakfast at The Sycamore Kitchen and then grabbed a coffee for the road at Graffiti Sublime Coffee. Our flight ended up being delayed so we could have stayed longer!

Last week Press Restaurant had an amazing 10 course pig dinner using a mangalitsa pig from Rudd Farms. The dinner was paired with wines from across the Napa Valley. Highlights: Mini cuban sandwich with matchstick fries and the bacon ice cream! So good! We’re hoping they permanently add those items to the menu…

Sam and I had the privilege of attending one of Meadowood’s Twelve Days of Christmas last week. For twelve nights they invite guest chefs to prepare a menu with chef Christopher Kostow and vintners to pair their amazing wines with the menu. The night we attended featured Chef Nick Anderer of Maialino and Bryant Family Vineyard. The format changed slightly this year with both chefs alternating dishes. The night started out with champagne and appetizers (and us taking awkward photos of ourselves in the foyer – typical). We were supposed to be seated at the bar but there was a last-minute cancellation and we were moved to the chef’s table in the kitchen! We watched the entire meal unfold from the kitchen. I had a smile on my face the entire time! The choreography that takes place between the chefs and the servers in the kitchen is truly impressive. The chefs worked so well together and the wine perfectly enhanced the dishes. More champagne to celebrate the night’s success was the perfect ending. Such a special evening!
