Last weekend I drove up to Arcata to visit my brother who is going to school up there. From Napa it is a beautiful drive! We stayed at a lovely little historic B&B in Arcata run by the former mayor. It is definitely a different culture, but it is absolutely beautiful and we had an amazing time. It was the first farmers market of the season in Aracata, and the sun was out so everyone was downtown. The interesting thing to me at the market was the focus on starter plants. They really encouraged home gardens which I thought was great. Downtown Eureka there are some AMAZING antique stores, I bought a great old wine jug for so cheap. And my two favorite things…Hunter the gorgeous pup above, and the succulent and herb garden growing in a chair. I was taking a picture and the owner came out (she could not have been nicer) and explained that you just take the bottom out of the chair, add chicken wire, moss, dirt, and then whatever you want to grow. My next DIY project!!
